Principle of Management
- Reward It emanates from the influencer’s ability to reward the influence for carrying out certain tasks.
- Coercive It emanates from the leader’s ability to punish followers for undesirable behaviour.
- Legitimate It is the power acknowledged by the subordinate and may be referred to as formal power / authority. This power is derived from the organisational hierarchy.
- Expert It arises from the perception that that the leader has some specialised skill / knowledge that the influence does not have.
- Referent It emanates from the leader’s “exemplary power” – his ability to set an example to the influences.
