Principle of Management
- Specificity: - The control system must be targeted at specific Standards must not be vague.
- Simplicity: - The system must be easy to use
- Economy: - It must not be more costly than its value to the organisation.
- Timeliness: - An effective system must produce information when it is needed This ensures that corrective action is taken before a situation gets out of hand.
- Completeness: - The system must balance quantitative with qualitative information and must not be restricted to one particular aspect.
- Understandability: - A good control must be understood by all those who participate in its implementation; otherwise it may be of no value.
- Reasonable criteria: - standards that are too high may de-motivate staff, leading to possible use of shortcut
- Emphasis on exceptions: - The control system should pinpoint only exceptional circumstances.
